Henrik Aghekyan, 64, who had crossed the national border of Armenia, appeared in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic—an exclave of Azerbaijan, in August—and against whom criminal charges were brought, has been deemed insane by an expertise.

His attorney, Andranik Mnatsakanyan, told about the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“Henrik Aghekyan is in a psychiatric hospital,” said the attorney. “The court shall decide whether to apply a constraint measure of medical nature.”

Aghekyan has been charged with crossing the state border of Armenia without required documents, or proper authorization.

The respective investigation has been sent to court.

According to the indictment, between August 5 and August 6 at 8:30am, Henrik Aghekyan left his home in Aygepat village in Ararat Province of Armenia under unknown circumstances, crossed the state border of Armenia without respective documentation and authorization, and crossed into Nakhchivan.

But there were rumors at the time that Aghekyan has mental disorders, and he often went missing from home.
