President of Russia Vladmir Putin has been informed about the assault on the Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov, the spokesman for the Russian President Dmitry Peskov told RIA Novosti.

''The President has been reported [on the incident]. We are checking the information. The President is going to listen to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and heads of intelligence services,'' Peskov noted.

Earlier, the Russian MFA confirmed the armed assault on the Russian Ambassador to Turkey, as a result of which Karlov sustained firearm wound and later died.
