PicsArt is a successful project created by Armenian software engineers. PicsArt is a mobile application and a social network with photo and video editing options that is available on iOS, Android and Windows. The application has more than 350 million installs, 85 million monthly active users, and the company employs over 300 people in Yerevan alone. The company has achieved this in five years only, and PicsArt example shows it is possible to create demanded solutions in Armenia.

PicsArt CTO and General Manager Mikael Vardanyan says the PicsArt users are spreading the word about the application resulting in organic growth.

Mr. Vardanyan notes their goal is to be at the same level with leaders: Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. PicsArt is on this track, and is one of AppStore’s top applications.

PicsArt is an example showing that world changing projects can be created in Armenia.  During his recent meeting with the IT representatives, Armenian Prime Minister stressed the need for world changing projects that will help develop the IT sector, business and market. Mr. Vardanyan says PicsArt together with other representatives of IT companies, has already presented to the government a package indicating the directions and key points that will enable to record significant progress.

“More jobs are needed. There are 8,000 tech engineers in IT sector. We have introduced a program offering to increase the number to 40, 000 by 2025. Moreover, 40,000 can be multiplied since development of IT sector would lead to the development of adjacent areas and would increase the demand for skilled professionals,” he said.

The package also contains proposals in education sector. According to the authors, development of IT sector might ensure immigration of IT professionals. The proposals also include the issue of tax changes that will encourage IT companies. According to PicsArt General Manager, they have received positive responses so far.

Mikael Vardanyan notes there is a high number of technology startups in Armenia nowadays. They are not only working in the direction of outsourcing, but are developing their own products. The companies should unite and become involved in the recovery and progress of the country. The successful examples, and there are many of them, have to be presented to the public, as they can inspire people, make them act and change the atmosphere.

PicsArt regularly presents educational programs not for its employees only, but for the students of schools in Armenia’s regions.

PicsArt- is a young company with an average age of employees standing at 25. The company plans to create at least 50 new jobs this year.

Mikael Vardanyan says that creativity and innovation are not only about PicsArt application, but their daily work in the office. They are trying to do something interesting even during parties and events, and creativity has become a part of their daily routine.

The company's chief technology officer advises young professionals who are undertaking a new task to go till the end.

 “There will be many challenges on your way, but you shouldn’t give up. The one who will manage to overcome the difficulties and go forward will succeed. The important thing is to believe in the idea and your goals. Complaining is easy, we should always think, scrutinize, make recommendations, and this will lead to success,” he assured.
