YEREVAN. - During 2016, Armenia actively participated in the activities of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

On February 1, the representative of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan assumed the chairmanship of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) for four years, as per the annual report of the Armenian MFA for 2016.

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan attended two sessions of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council held in Astana and Saint Petersburg on May 31 and December 26 respectively. During the aforementioned sessions, the agreement on the EAEU Customs Code was signed, 33 decisions on the key directions of integration within the EAEU framework and the Union’s market of common services were adopted. Besides, relevant decisions on the development of cooperation with Iran, India, Egypt and Singapore, as well as on the international activity of the EAEU for 2017 were adopted.

Prime Minister of Armenia took part in five sessions at the level of the EAEU Government member-states. The sessions took place on April 13 and November 16 in Moscow, on May 20 in Yerevan, on August 12 in Sochi and on October 27 in Minsk.

Within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Armenia took part in the ongoing processes of the institution, attaching great importance to the deepening of traditional ties with the CIS member-states.

The President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan on Tuesday attended the session of the Council of Heads of States of CIS held in Bishkek on September 16. Prime Minister of Armenia Karen Karapetyan attended the session of the Council of Heads of Governments of CIS held in Minsk on October 28. Vice Prime Minister of Armenia Vache Gabrielyan took part in the session of the Council of Heads of Governments of CIS in Bishkek on June 7.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Edward Nalbandian attended the session of the Council of Foreign Ministries of CIS in Bishkek on September 16.
