YEREVAN. – Armenian authorities are ready to investigate the cases of illicit enrichment of public officials, but it is hardly justified to start the process right now, head of RPA parliamentary group said.

Vahram Baghdasaryan’s comment came during the discussion of a draft decision proposing to study the income of public officials that was introduced by opposition MP Nikol Pashinyan that aims

Prosperous Armenia, Orinats Yerkir support the bill, while ARF Dashnaktsutyun – a member of ruling coalition – backs the draft with some reservations.

“If we form an ad-hoc committee now, it will exist two months before the new parliament is elected,” he said describing the decision as “inexpedient and populist”.

The MP said ruling parliamentary group will vote against the decision.
