YEREVAN. – Ratification of the Paris Agreement by Armenia proves commitment to fulfill obligations on the fight against climate change, Ambassador of France in Armenia Jean-Francois Charpentier said in a statement.
“I am happy to see that today the Armenian National Assembly by a majority vote ratified the Paris climate agreement. The ratification shows the willingness of Armenia to fulfill obligation on implementation of the document's provisions on the fight against climate change,” the statement reads.
Armenian lawmakers approved the Paris Agreement with 93 votes during parliament’s session on Thursday.
The Paris Agreement is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) dealing with greenhouse gases emissions mitigation, adaptation and finance starting in the year 2020. The agreement was adopted by consensus on 12 December 2015.
