World Health Organization will put Armenia in the list of malaria-free zone, says the 2011-2015 malaria combat program in Armenia.

No cases of local incidents of malaria have been registered in Armenia since 2006. Armenia is among European Region countries who managed to eliminate the disease within its territory.

After 31-year interval, malaria once again rooted in Armenia in 1994, spreading in Ararat and Armavir regions. Due to malaria combat and prevention measures the successive spread of the disease has been prevented and local transmission has been stopped.
