Organizer of the two-day conference on development of participatory democracy in Turkey, Foundation for Economic and Social Research (TESEV) shared its conclusions on discrimination against country’s Armenian community.

TESEV presented the conclusions of Listening to the Armenians of Turkey report on June 25. The report said that the Armenian identity and culture in Turkey must be protected in accordance with Treaty of Lausanne provisions (1923), reports Turkish Today’s Zaman.

The report noted that the Constitution should not contain any references to ethnicity when determining citizenship. TESEV also noted that provisions criminalizing "insulting Turkish identity" should be revised to have similar sensitive attitude towards other national identities.

The Association has also included a number of proposals for the protection of Armenian culture, such as providing special status to the Armenian schools and schools of other ethnic minorities, creating Armenian textbooks, training teachers of Armenian origin, a sufficient number of courses on Armenian language and literature at the universities, and the support of Armenian broadcast radio and Armenian theaters.

According to the report, the Armenian school, Surp Khatch Dprevank should be permitted to train Armenian clergy.
