In January-December 2021, the South Caucasus Railway (SCR) company transported 3,124,000 tons of cargo, which is 2.4% less than in 2020, the SCR informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In export communication, slightly more than 400 thousand tons were transported last year, which is 17% less than in 2020, in import communication—646,500 tons (4.4% decrease), and in domestic communication—2 million tons (2.7% increase).

Also in 2021, a total of 436 thousand passengers were transported in Armenia by the SCR trains, which is 43% more than in 2020. Last year, 19,500 passengers were transported in international communication and 416,500—in domestic communication. This considerable increase in the number of Armenia’s railway passengers is because of the low statistical base of 2020 due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic.
