There is no reason for the Electric Networks of Armenia company to worry about the liberalization of the country’s electricity market, as the distribution function will remain with it, but a competitive environment is being created—for the medium-sized and large consumers—in the field of sales. Garegin Baghramyan, Chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia, told about this to a press conference Tuesday.

According to him, in order to avoid destabilization of the situation at the initial stage, cheap electricity generating stations will not be allowed to enter this market.

He said that two electricity consumers have already come out of the regulations of the Electric Networks of Armenia company.

"A consumer has chosen a supplier and buys electricity from it at an unregulated price. Another qualified consumer—an independent player in the wholesale market—participates independently in the purchase of electricity on a specially created electronic platform," Baghramyan added.
