At 10pm on July 16, the Police of Armenia received a call that there was a man with a hand grenade near a supermarket Ashtarak city, and he was threatening to blow himself up with that hand grenade.
The Ashtarak police found out that he is a 37-year-old resident of Byurakan village, the police informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.
The man was threatening to blow himself up if they did not return to him his child, who now lives with his ex-wife.
Thanks to the explanatory work by the head of the Ashtarak police department, this man was voluntarily transferred to the Ashtarak police station—where the explanatory work continued.
Also, the aforesaid hand grenade was rendered inoperative.
The man was detained and handed to the investigative body—where criminal proceedings were launched.
A criminal investigation is underway.
