Manana Aslamazyan, former General Director of Internews, was killed in a road accident in Yerevan.

Aslamazyan was born on January 10, 1952 in Yerevan.

She lived in Moscow since 1974.

Since 1993, she worked as the general director of the Russian branch of the American Internews Network Foundation.

Since 1998, she was a member of the management board of Internews International and chairperson of Internews Europe.

Since 2000, she was a member of the Russian Federal Competition Authority.

Since 2002, she was vice president of the National Association of Russian Television and Radio Broadcasters.

Since 2007, she was in a criminal case of currency smuggling for funding the activities of an American non-governmental organization managed by her, in the case of currency imported from Europe. She had hid from the respective investigation and left Russia, making Paris her new permanent residence.

Subsequently, an open letter in defense of Aslamazyan was issued, under which a number of Russian journalists had signed.
