A court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan granted the petition by the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia to have Yerevan Judge Arusyak Aleksanyan remanded in custody. Aleksanyan's lawyer Yerem Sargsyan informed about this on Facebook.

On Monday, the NSS officers has apprehended attorney Erik Aleksanyan from a Yerevan court.

The lawyer, who is a defense attorney in high-profile criminal cases, is accused of assisting an official in the abuse of power.

Judge Arusyak Aleksanyan also is a defendant in this criminal proceeding. The Supreme Judicial Council of Armenia has stripped the judge of her judicial immunity and allowed criminal proceedings to be launched against her.
