French President Nicolas Sarkozy spent £250,000 on a personal shower and never used it, the Guardian reports. According to the daily, it was discovered by French financial watchdogs. Sarkozy spent £160m within 6 months, when France was holding presidency of EU.
“The vast expense is set out in a report blaming poor management and a lack of transparency by the president's staff,” the daily reads.
The Grand Palace in Paris was upgraded for an EU-Mediterranean summit.
Here are some figures: £300,000 for a conference podium, nearly £200,000 for upgrading the gardens and grounds, except for presidential shower that he had never used as “was going back to the Élysée palace during the three-day summit to freshen up.”
