YEREVAN. - Court of Appeals of Armenia urged National Assembly (NA) member Spartak Melikyan, who wishes the transfer of salary yet demands 600 million drams ($1,600,400 US) from a juvenile offender, not to exert pressure on the Court.

Making use of his status as an MP, Melikyan took the floor in NA session on October 4 and made a declaration that contains offensive and defamatory statements against judicial power and its heads, Appeals Court’s press service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am. 

In actual fact, by using NA platform, Spartak Melikyan attempted to exert pressure on the Court, and such act could result in criminal account.   

On February 24, a minor by the name of Vahe Hakobyan had caused a car accident, as a result of which MP Spartak Melikyan’s father Seyran had died. 

In the ensuing trial, court of Kotayk Region had found Hakobyan guilty and sentenced him to 3 years in prison.

But pursuant to NA decision passed on May 26 with respect to “Declaring Amnesty in Connection with 20th Anniversary of Armenia’s Independence,” Vahe Hakobyan was released from prison, whereas the victim’s legal heir Spartak Melikyan’s civil lawsuit filed with the criminal case was complied with, but in part.

Spartak Melikyan subsequently appealed the Kotayk court’s ruling, expressing dissatisfaction over pardoning of the juvenile Hakobyan and partially complying with his civil lawsuit. According to Melikyan, Hakobyan should be arrested while his civil lawsuit complied with, in full, that is, he demands a total of 600 million drams from the juvenile offender.   

The appeal is still being examined.
