YEREVAN. – During his election campaign in 2008, Armenia’s President had stated that birth rate needs to be stimulated. Several analysts even predicted certain numbers, according to which if the “new” government were to provide monetary assistance to families, more than three, or more, children would born in each of them, Yerkir daily writes..

“But the residents of Vayots Dzor [Region’s] mountainous Salli village (66 families, 256 residents) told Yerkir’s correspondent that the last child in their village was born in 2007. ‘Seven girls were [already] born in that family, and they had [the child in the hopes of] having a boy. Otherwise, that child wouldn’t have been born,’ they said in the village,” Yerkir writes.
