YEREVAN.- The burglars, who broke into the home of an elderly couple in Voghjaberd village of Armenia’s Kotayk Region, on Sunday, stole US$ 7,200 by torturing the couple, Voghjaberd villagers and the village head, Norayr Melkonyan, told Armenian News-NEWS.am.  

To note, Police Force’s Kotayk Regional Precinct had received a call, on Sunday evening, that there was a break-in into a home in Voghjaberd village. It became apparent that three masked men had entered the said home, tied its resident elderly couple, beat them, and stole $ 7,200, one bag of nuts, seven bottles of brandy and one bucket of almonds, and ran away. The elderly spouses were transferred to hospital.        

The Voghjaberd villagers informed that the couple is the village’s largest landowner.   Also, the husband and wife grow cherries and their fruits are exported to Russia.

Voghjaberd village head, Norayr Melkonyan, informed the couple is Aramayis and Seda Papikyan. And as per the village head, the burglars “heated the iron stove rode and burned the husband’s neck. They hit his head with an iron so much that the elderly man was drenched in blood. Also, they cut the husband’s toes with a tree scissor.”     

The burglars are still at large, Police Force Kotayk Investigation Department Chief Yeghishe Petrosyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
