YEREVAN. - Ruling coalition’s Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) reflected on the formal letter sent to President Serzh Sargsyan from Chairman Raffi Hovannisian of the parliamentary opposition’s Heritage Party. In his letter, Hovannisian had called for making state and educational institutions free of political party affiliation in order to hold free and fair elections.

And RPA’s response to this letter specifically reads:

“Those initiatives that expect reforms must have a positive trend and must exclude subjective perceptions of separate phenomena, because it is not fair to put subjective assessments on the basis of revealing the conformity of political and legal processes. Adoption of the new Electoral Code is one of the most important steps toward carrying out the authorities’ political obligation to organize and hold free and fair elections.

Declarative statements, or populist slogans, shall not serve as tools for putting the actual political will under a doubt. Any state must aspire for flawless elections. And any violation in the electoral processes shall receive an equivalent assessment.”
