An explosion occurred at a mosque in Afghanistan's Herat province, killing the imam of the mosque, the local TV channel Tolo News, citing sources.

According to the TV channel, the cause of the explosion is currently described as a suicide attack.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid expressed condolences for the death of the imam, and promised to punish those responsible.

Later, the Khaama Press news agency, citing local sources, reported that the death toll in the bombing of a mosque in Herat province rose to 20 people.
