YEREVAN. - The activists of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) bloc held a protest action near the building of Attorney General’s Office on Friday.

They demanded immediate release of ANC activists Tigran Arakelyan, Artak Karapetyan, Sargis Gevorgyan and David Kiramijyan who were sentenced to jail for using violence against authority representative.

The ANC group head, MP Levon Zurabyan said that the bloc will win through its consistent struggle.

The ANC activists stated they will continue to gather in front of the Prosecutor General’s Office building every Friday.

A clash occurred between the ANC activists and police officers on Aug. 9, 2011. Police detained 7 activists and instigated a criminal case bringing charges in hooliganism and violence against authority representative. At the same time, the activists claimed that the police officers have severely beaten them. The First Instance Court sentenced Tigran Arakelyan to 6, Artak Karapetyan to 3, Sargis Gevorgyan and Davit Kiramijyan to 2 years in jail on July 20.
