Azerbaijani authorities plan on making the country’s officials sit on bicycles.

In August, President Ilham Aliyev had formally opened the İsma Bikes bicycle plant, whose planned production capacity is 30 thousand bikes per year, reported Haqqin.az news agency of the country. 

“It seems like all [Azerbaijani] agencies that are linked to the production and sale of this ordinary means of transportation should have understood the meaning of the President’s message, which lies in the fact that the country needs bicycles, which are environmentally friendly means of transport, they do not cause traffic jams, [and] contribute to the physical development of people. However, it seems the [Azerbaijani] officials have disregarded this message.

“But what are tens of thousands of bicycles for, if there are no roads and adequate infrastructure for them [in Azerbaijan],” the article reads, in particular.
