Martin Schulz resigned as European Parliament president ahead of elections to Bundestag set for September 2017.
In his letter sent to Bundestag administration, Schulz said he rejected a 170,000 euro compensation that he could get because of early resignation, Bild reported.
According to Bild, the salary of the president and European Parliament members makes around 8,500 euro per month before taxes.
