Five candidates, four of which are Armenians, are running for three open seats on the Glendale school board, Los Angeles Times reports.

Incumbent board member Greg Krikorian is running to keep his seat in District B in northwest Glendale against Vardan Stepanyan.

Stepanyan said his run will give voters a choice on the ballot. "Many people are looking for changes on the board," he noted.

Meanwhile, Krikorian pointed to the value of his experience in helping establish the Glendale Educational Foundation and other programs since he was first elected to the board in 2001.

In District C, Armina Gharpetian is running unopposed, but despite this she promised to continue to improve the district's finances.

Shant Sahakian and Joal Ryan are two more newcomers. In Sahakian’s words, one of his priorities is to improve communication between the school board and parents
