At least six people were killed and four more were injured after a building under construction collapsed in Jinan, capital of east China's Shandong Province, Xinhua reported.

Workers were adding a second floor to a village house in Shaodong village when it collapsed.

Police and firemen rushed to the rescue, pulling out those trapped in the debris. All the injured are hospitalized. None of the injured are in critical condition.

According to investigators, the construction was being carried out illegally.

Those allegedly responsible for the construction have been detained.
