A New York City police officer was shot while sitting in her patrol car in Bronx , NYT reported.

The officer, Miosotis Familia, 48, was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead about three hours after the shooting. 

The local police considers that it was an unprovoked attack. The man approached the police car and shot  Miosotis in the head. Later the gunman was killed during firefight with police. It is noted that a person was injured and then was hospitalized as a result of the firefight.

The gunman was identified as Alexander Bonds, 34, who also uses the name John Bonds.

John Bonds served seven years in prison for a robbery in the Syracuse area before he was paroled in May 2013.
