The United States is “deeply concerned” by the arrests of human rights activists in Turkey, Reuters reported quoting State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert.

“As with past arrests of prominent human rights defenders, journalists, academics, and activists, we underscore the importance of respecting due process and individual rights, as enshrined in the Turkish Constitution, and consistent with Turkey's own international commitments,” Nauert said.

Earlier, EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn, who is in Turkey, noted that he had raised the detentions with Turkish officials.

As it was reported earlier, Turkish police detained 10 human rights activists, including the Turkey head of rights group Amnesty International, Idil Eser and two foreigners in Buyukada Island, Istanbul. It was not clear why they were held.
