YEREVAN. – Noise in some Yerevan streets exceeds permissible level, said ecologist.
Karine Danielyan, chairman of Association for Stable Human Development NGO, said noise exceeds permissible level by 5-7 decibels during the daytime. The main source of noise in Yerevan streets is transport, cafes and restaurants, as well as music coming from CD shops.
Owners of restaurants and cafes believe loud music attracts more customers but in fact it harms health, she added. Instead of having rest in the parks people have to listen to loud music coming from cafes and are under stress. “In fact there are no noiseless places for rest in Yerevan,” she noted.
Karine Danielian said that construction of buildings close to each other leads to reflection of sound waves which doubles negative impact of noise.
