The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit starts in Chisinau today. Many of the CIS Presidents already arrived in the capital of Moldova. Mihai Ghimpu, Speaker of Moldovan Parliament and the Actng Head of State, declared that Chisinau is ready to host the summit. He gave assurances that 30 percent of the city police personnel will ensure security. Yesterday traffic was closed in the city centre, so citizens are allowed in the event district only through ID check-up.

Meanwhile Vesti TV channel reports that Presidents of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will not attend the event, instead, Prime Ministers of the countries will represent the country leaders.

A number of bilateral meetings, particularly those of RF President Dmirty Medvedev, are scheduled in the framework of the summit. Medvedev will meet with Ghimpu and hold trilateral meeting with Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Counter-crisis measures in social and economic sectors, national and regional security issues will be in the focus. The Chisinau CIS summit agenda also includes regional forums preparation issues on human integration, security, etc. The Presidents will be presented with about twenty draft projects on expediting cooperation between CIS states, ITAR-TASS informs.

As NEWS.am informed earlier, RA President Serzh Sargsyan heading Armenian delegation left for Moldova October 8 to attend the CIS summit in Chisinau.
