An armed man who tried to commit a robbery was apprehended at a branch of the Bank of Georgia in Batumi.
According to Georgian media, bank employees pushed the "alarm" button and called the police. The attacker, according to witnesses, tried to take a hostage and shot. However, thanks to the actions of employees, the robbery was prevented - the attacker fled from the bank and the police began to pursue him.
The incident happened around noon. By 3 p.m. the police had detained the robber. The bank continues to work as usual.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs launched an investigation under Article 179 (robbery) and Article 236 (illegal possession of firearms).
