YEREVAN. – At the end of 2021, the makeup of Armenia's national debt improved on the account of the increase in the share of dram debt. Minister of Finance Tigran Khachatryan said this during Monday’s debates on the execution of the 2021 state budget, at the meeting of the Standing Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs of the National Assembly.

According to him, in 2021 the Armenian government set itself the task of improving the relative indicators in order to return them to the range of the level defined by the manageable national debt law.

"In 2020, a significant increase in national debt was registered in Armenia. Thus, the ratio of government debt to GDP was 63.5 percent. In 2021, we managed to reduce this figure all the way to 60.3 percent, which is 3.2 percentage points lower compared to last year," said the minister.

He also assured that the government managed to improve the makeup of the national debt. For example, in 2021, the share of Armenian dram debt in the general makeup of Armenia’s national debt had increased.
