YEREVAN. - The officer, detained over the death of 18-year-old serviceman Aghasi Abrahamyan was arrested on Saturday, MOD press service informs Armenian News-NEWS.am. The name of the officer is not disclosed.
The officer was charged over article 375, part 1 of Armenian Criminal Code. This article, however, has nothing to do with murder and suicide and is called “Abuse of Power or Inaction of Authorities’’.
There is no information about the other detainee, the doctor. 72 hours of his detention did not run out.
Earlier on Thursday Armenian 168 Zham (168 Hour) newspaper reported officers Suren Tadevosyan and Arsen Afyan, as well as doctor Nver Mirzabekyan were detained. Sources told the newspaper another seven people were expected to be detained by Wednesday evening.
Soldier of the Karabakh Defense Army Aghasi Abrahamyan, 19, was taken to hospital unconscious last Friday. He died in hospital an hour later. His mother claims he had many wounds on his body, which speaks of being severely beaten.
Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan said experts found traces of violence on his body and criminal case was opened.
“It is not a secret, list of people who might beat him is revealed. All the perpetrators will be punished,” MOD said.
