YEREVAN. – If the Heritage Party decides to start directing its entire potential to the electoral processes, as of now, there is no doubt that it would enter the next parliament and have more seats than today, the Party’s leader Raffi Hovannisian stated during a press conference on Saturday.
In response to the question as to what the Heritage Party’s parliamentary boycott gave to the Party, in general, and to him, in particular, Hovannisian said: “I do not know what the boycott gave, but everyone determines his own political line and approach. I believe there had to be at least one force in the political domain that had to raise the issue of unconstitutionality and unlawfulness of the [ruling] coalition’s memorandum. The President is reading beautiful speeches in recent periods, but their elements do not correspond to our reality,” Hovannisian stated.
Heritage Party’s leader also reflected on the format of the Party’s participation in the next parliamentary elections. “Being prepared to pass the coming road on our own, we can also discuss the creation of an alternative with trans-party forces,” Hovannisian noted.
The next parliamentary elections in Armenia will be held in May 2012.
On February 17, 2011, Armenia’s 3 ruling parties signed a new coalition memorandum, whereby specifying that they will combine forces during the 2012 parliamentary elections and support the current president during the 2013 presidential elections. The memorandum also stipulates that the ruling parties will maintain their proportion in parliament.
