YEREVAN. – The authorities consider unacceptable the opposition Armenian National Congress’ (ANC) demand for President Serzh Sargsyan’s resignation and they will not converse with them on that matter, ruling coalition’s Republican Party of Armenia MP Mkrtich Minasyan stated during his briefing with news reporters on Monday.

“If that will be the issue, there cannot be a dialogue on it. It is not in our party’s and, also, our people’s interest,” the MP noted.

In Minasyan’s view, ANC’s sit-ins showed that democracy is being implemented in Armenia and the state is not obstructing the sit-ins. “Also the police did not obstruct the sit-in,” Minasyan stated.

And in response to the journalists’ observation to the fact that the police had closed the roads and were prohibiting people from entering the capital Yerevan, Mkrtich Minasyan said: “I personally am not informed because I did not leave Yerevan for the past eight days. I accept the assessment given by the competent person. I rule out that [Police Chief] Alik Sargsyan has lied.”
