YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Deputy PM and Regional Governance Minister Armen Gevorgyan on Thursday received Mania Henriette Ahrens, the newly-appointed UNICEF Representative in Armenia, and Professor Jaap Doek, former Chairperson of UN Committee on Rights of the Child, who is in Armenia at the invitation of UNICEF.

Armen Gevorgyan noted that in recent periods a productive cooperation is carried out with UNICEF’s Armenia Office, and expressed a hope that the collaboration would continue, Regional Governance Ministry Press Service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.  

Deputy PM also informed that in recent years a greater attention is paid to the protection of children’s rights and the studies thereof. “We are trying to organize the activities in such way that no child is left outside of state’s attention,” Gevorgyan stated. He also highly evaluated the activities being conducted with UNICEF and NGOs in these domains.   

Armen Gevorgyan also reflected on the institutional reforms being carried out in Armenia in the sphere of social protection. 

In her turn, Henriette Ahrens expressed a readiness to continue the productive cooperation, noting that UNICEF’s Armenia Office is prepared to render all assistance to Armenia’s authorities in implementing reforms. 

It was also noted that Professor Jaap Doek will present, to respective organizations, his study on Armenia’s latest report on the Convention of the Rights of the Child.
