YEREVAN. – In Armenia, a 1-MB Internet had cost 1 million 200 thousand drams (US$ 3,167), three years ago, whereas today it costs 34,000 drams (US$ 89.75). This is a substantial progress, as it enables to secure Internet access, Armenian PM Tigran Sargsyan stated during the ruling coalition’s Republican Party of Armenia’s (RPA) economic conference on Sunday.  

“Several factors influenced the reduction in prices. First, the Government of Armenia declared priority the IT and telecommunications domain,” Sargsyan noted.  

In his words, legislative changes were made in Armenia, numerous normative acts were adopted, and all administrations were instructed to eliminate those functions which obstruct IT development. “In the case when we had 80 thousand Internet users, a mere three years ago, that number is 350 thousand, today. Today the Internet has become inseparable for ordinary families,” Tigran Sargsyan maintained.
