YEREVAN. – Armenian Minister of Emergency Situations, Armen Yeritsyan, on Monday received Ingrid Verstraeten—Head of Europe, Russia and Central Asia Department at United States Geological Survey (USGS) International Programs—and Jatinder Cheema—United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director for Armenia.

The meeting aimed to discuss the directions for cooperation between the Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) and the aforesaid organizations.

Armen Yeritsyan underscored the importance of cooperation in seismic protection. “Armenia is located in a seismically active belt, and our network will be the best. Earthquakes have, and will continue to, hit this region, and we will be prepared to withstand them,” Yeritsyan said, MES Press Service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.    

The foreign guests likewise assured their readiness to collaborate, highlighting that MES’s corresponding agency is included in the international seismology network and it has great potential.

After the meeting, Ingrid Verstraeten and Jatinder Cheema visited MES Crisis Management Center.
