YEREVAN. – Former political prisoner Felix Gevorgyan underwent tortures as a result of his father’s political activity, who is a member of the oppositional Armenian National Congress, Gevorgyan’s lawyer Stepan Voskanyan told the journalists on Friday.
Police arrested Gevorgyan at his home on September 29 this year. According to the lawyer, Gevorgyan was offered to take over one of the murder cases of March 1, 2008, tragic events [10 people were killed during demonstrations on March1, 2008 in Yerevan downtown] and some robberies. He was tortured and subjected to violations, as a result, he took over the accusation.
Voskanyan claims that the accusation is false and states no concrete places. Besides, police officers burned his legs with red-hot stick and he cannot walk properly. The barrister stated that only after involving the Ombudsman in the case it was possible for Gevorgyan to reject the testimony. The court may even set him free or sentence for maximum five years of imprisonment.
