The Regional Hall of Armenia’s Syunik Region responded to 168 Zham daily’s information published Monday, with respect to Governor Suren (Surik) Khachatryan building a hydro power plant (HPP), and said this information is not true.    

“One small-capacity hydro power plant was built, on Tsav River by the Energotsantsshin Company, and it still operates. [And] The same company plans on building a second hydro power plant on the same river. Even though the land’s usage purpose was changed, in line with the Armenian Government’s corresponding decision, the community has not yet alienated the land to the aforesaid organization. Syunik Regional Governor Surik Khachatryan has no connection with the said company,” Syunik Regional Hall’s press release specifically reads.      

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, Governor Suren Khachatryan of Armenia’s Syunik Region is preparing to build two hydro power plants in Tsav village of Kapan city, 168 Zham daily wrote. “According to Tsav residents, the Basuta River, where an HPP is already built, passes through the village. The residents could not state the name of that HPP’s proprietor, but they said they would protest if new HPPs were to be build,” 168 Zham wrote.
