YEREVAN. – On the instruction of the Armenian capital Yerevan City Hall, the interior renovations at the city’s Covered Market are stopped, Culture Minister Hasmik Poghosyan stated during a press conference on Thursday.

In her words, their experts reported that there are no problems concerning the underground activities, and so far nothing is said on the aboveground activities, since there is no plan as of yet. “At present, they have petitioned to the Ministry solely for the construction of a parking lot at the underground section. There is no other plan so far,” the Minister said.

To note, the Covered Market was sold to MP Samvel Aleksanyan (a.k.a. Lfik Samo). According to rumors, Aleksanyan plans to turn the Market into the largest in his Yerevan City supermarket chain. Renovations at the Covered Marked had begun on January. In the 1950s, the Market was recognized as one of Armenia’s best architectural structures.
