YEREVAN. - Member of oppositional Armenian National Congress Gagik Jhagiryan commented on former political prisoner Suren Sirunyan’s statement according to which he takes back his appeal from the European Court.
During a press conference which took place on Monday Jhangiryan mentioned the issue first apologizing from Surenyan’s lawyer Varduhi Elbakyan he mentioned that Elbakyan has sent a letter to member of Armenian National Congress’s Judicial Support Center Armen Khachatryan.
“Hello Armen. What are those statements? Who gave subject to them? What is it talked about there? I am not aware of anything. I am not in Armenia. What has Surik to do with my contract or appeal to the European Court? What does his wish to take back his appeal have to do with this case?” the letter reads.
To note, the speech goes about ANC not paying the lawyers of Political Prisoners.
Gagik Jhangiryan answered the question whether ANC owes any money to lawyers.
“ANC is neither a bank, nor a financial organization. First of all I want to thank all the lawyers who have cooperated with Armenian National Congress during all these years and I must mention that most of them have worked for free. I don’t know any lawyer who might have complained. The contracts are not being signed with the Judicial Support Center of ANC, they are signed with the relatives of the prisoners and the relatives do the payments. The Congress is not responsible if any NGO or individual sponsor paid them. We do not have any such information,” Jhangiryan added.
Jhangiryan also mentioned that Sirunyan does not know about most of the payments to the European Court, he is also unaware of other circumstances, while he was in ‘known places’ other people solved his issues.
