YEREVAN. – The trilateral meeting in Sochi, Russia, among the presidents of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan, was not a breakthrough because Azerbaijan, with the stubbornness of the well-known animal, conducts a destructive policy, Armenian National Assembly (NA) Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov said during a press conference on Tuesday.    

In his words, the joint declaration, which was adopted as a result of the trilateral meeting, is in keeping with the position of the Armenian parties: Armenia and Karabakh. “The Armenian parties constantly spoke from the viewpoint of a peaceful settlement [to the Karabakh conflict]. But Azerbaijan recently said the problem has two solutions: military, or peaceful. [But] It was consolidated that problem solely has a peaceful solution,” Eduard Sharmazanov recalled.      

NA Deputy Speaker also noted that, by being elected a non-permanent member in the UN Security Council, Azerbaijan wishes to transfer the Karabakh issue to other platforms. “But the document clearly noted, and to which Azerbaijan likewise joined with its signature, that the problem must be resolved with the OSCE Minsk Group format,” Eduard Sharmazanov added.    

According to him, Armenia is building a peaceful democracy, normal relations, and the society is not preparing for war—albeit the country is ready for war, too. “Azerbaijan is preaching a racist policy, and, consequently, the adopted document was yet another clear blow to Azerbaijan. There was no breakthrough because Azerbaijan, with the stubbornness of the well-known animal, conducts a destructive policy. But I am hopeful that the pressure would be so much that Azerbaijan’s words and actions would not differ,” Eduard Sharmazanov concluded.
