YEREVAN. – Armenian Minister of Agriculture, Sergo Karapetyan, received World Bank food security representative Giuseppe Fantozzi, and they discussed Armenia’s irrigation system.

Fantozzi informed the Minister that he plans to design and subsequently implement a new program for improving Armenia’s irrigation system, and that in this regard he is conducting preliminary talks with international organizations, the Ministry informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.   

In his turn, Sergo Karapetyan noted that lot is done toward improving Armenia’s irrigation system, but lot more still has to be carried out. The Minister also reflected on the need to improve the country’s irrigation network system. “We also have problems with respect to the efficient usage of pumping stations, and clarifying the actual amount of water consumption,” he added.       

Giuseppe Fantozzi informed that the document, which will be prepared on the basis of the presented observations, will be examined. 

The parties also agreed to discuss food security issues during their next meeting, which is scheduled for March.
