YEREVAN. – The National Press Club of Armenia issued a statement in defense of Haykakan Zhamanak daily’s journalist, Hayk Gevorgyan.
“The National Press Club calls upon the law enforcement and the justice agencies to commute the restraint order against Hayk Gevorgyan, and to implement a comprehensive and an impartial investigation, including on the motives for the Police Force’s declaring a search against Hayk Gevorgyan,” the statement specifically reads.
Hayk Gevorgyan was taken into custody on February 3 and transferred to prison. He is accused of hitting a citizen with his car. But Haykakan Zhamanak’s editorial staff stated that this was untrue and was staged.
