YEREVAN. – Hayatsk daily interviewed Davit Hakobyan, head of the Marxist Party of Armenia. Below is an excerpt from the interview.

What is your view on Armenia’s present-day opposition?

I believe the opposition is that force which has a new alternative political idea. If you do not have an ideology, if you speak the same thing, you are not an opposition. The old authorities again wish to come to power. An opposition does not mean being a foreign spy and begging for money from them, carrying out their orders. I, for example, gave a wholly new idea on the matter of suffrage, and today I am a radical ideological opposition. I have completely opposed the governmental suffrage. Marxism is a doctrine, and comparing us to other political forces is like [comparing] the bow and arrow with the atomic bomb.
