VANADZOR. – Although all roads are open in Armenia’s Vanadzor city, following the heavy snowfall in the recent periods, the city’s sidewalks are still hazardous and impassable since February 8.

And in an interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am, Lyova Melikyan, the Head of Utilities and Improvement Department of Vanadzor City Hall, informed that the sidewalks are not cleaned, since they are covered with ice. “We filled salt, but the cold [weather] froze [the sidewalks], and the [snow removal] equipments were unable to operate. We are cleaning solely the main streets of the suburbs. If we were to clean every street leading to a courtyard, the community’s budget would not be enough,” Melikyan stated.

He also informed that around 22 tons of salt were used in Vanadzor ever since February, and that 15 tons more will be brought on Tuesday.
