YEREVAN. – The National Assembly of Armenia on Wednesday passed the bill on Military Service and the Status of Military Servicemen in the second—and final—reading.

The proposed law passed by a vote of 86 for and solely 6 against.

This law proposes to abolish military deferment, to which university students are against and are refusing to attend classes in protest of this bill.

And on Tuesday morning, five of these students declared a hunger strike at Yerevan State University. But one of them later ended his hunger strike, due to his health condition growing worse.
