The Civil Aviation Committee of the Republic of Armenia (RA) has issued a statement with respect to the reports on the possible hijacking of an Armenian plane.

"The Civil Aviation Committee reports that the Committee has not received any officially confirmed information from the relevant authorities on the fact of hijacking.

At the same time, we consider it necessary to note that the Committee is aware of the location of the aircraft, and is currently working closely with the aviation authorities of the countries concerned.

Upon completion of the investigation, the Committee will provide additional information," the statement reads in part.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, Hakob Tshagharyan, a former adviser to the Prime Minister of Armenia, had written about the hijacking of an Armenian plane.

"On February 21, the RA Civil Aviation Committee (CAC) received a telegram from the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (GDCA) of the United Arab Emirates on the hijacking of a Boeing-737 with Armenian registration number EK-FAA.

The plane flew from Tallinn, Estonia, and was scheduled to land in Yerevan.

But instead, a decision was made in the air to go to the Emirates for maintenance.

And ‘due to a technical malfunction,’ it landed in Tehran.

Sadly, Armenia is ‘reserving’ its place in the ‘blacklist’ of world aviation," Tshagharyan had written in particular.
