More than a month after Israeli troops began operations in Rafah, formerly Gaza's main safe zone, almost all the displaced have left the area, with fewer than 100,000 remaining, the UN refugee agency UNRWA said in a statement.

As a result, there are now 1.7 million displaced people in Gaza - more than 70 percent of the population - many of whom have been forced to move repeatedly, UNRWA said in its latest update.
