YEREVAN. – The number of suicides committed in Armenia in recent times has become a cause for serious concern, Zhoghovurd daily writes.  

“Official statistics paint a very sad picture in this regard. In line with the [National Statistical Service] NSS data, 498 people committed, or attempted to commit, suicide in 2009; [this was] 592 in 2010; [and] 647 in 2011.

There are no statistics for 2012 [yet].

[But] We learned from the NSS that these data are publicized every six months. That is to say, fairly serious ‘expectations’ are awaited from the official statistics in July,” Zhoghovurd writes.
