Official Athens is concerned over the Russian-Turkish agreement on the construction of the South Stream gas main, the Turkish Milliyet daily reports, referring to Greek media.

The problem is not Turkey’s prospective participation in the South Stream project. Much more important is the fact that Turkey was able to persuade Russia – which has for many years been indifferent to the Samsun–Ceyhan pipeline – into getting involved in the project. Milliyet points out that the developments arouse Greece’s concern.

In an article entitled “Greece in shock” the daily refers to Greek newspapers reporting that the agreement actually re-draws the region’s energy map. Thus, Greece will become strongly dependent on Turkey, which will be involved in all the regional energy projects.
